Vijayadashami(Dussehra) & Diwali is on 25 October 2025

  1. Vijayadashami(Dussehra)

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is a major Hindu festival celebrated across India and marks the victory of good over evil. It falls on the tenth day of the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin (usually in September or October), following the nine-day festival of Navratri.

The day holds dual significance in Indian mythology: In North India, it commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness.

In Eastern and Southern India, it celebrates Goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura, representing the power of good over evil.

Vijayadashami is celebrated with vibrant processions, cultural performances, and the symbolic burning of Ravana effigies, reminding us of the importance of truth, courage, and moral integrity.

It also marks an auspicious time to begin new ventures, learning, or journeys — a tradition rooted in the belief that any work started on this day will be successful.

2. Diwali :

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most joyful and widely celebrated festivals in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The word Deepavali means “a row of lights,” and the festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil. In Telugu tradition, Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana, as well as the triumph of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura — hence, the festival begins with Naraka Chaturdashi, followed by Lakshmi Puja and celebrations with lamps and fireworks.

Homes are cleaned, decorated with deepams (oil lamps) and rangoli (muggulu), and families come together to share traditional sweets and festive meals.

The lighting of lamps is believed to invite Goddess Lakshmi, the bringer of prosperity and fortune, into every household. In many Telugu homes, people also perform Govardhana Puja and Bali Padyami rituals in the following days.

Diwali thus unites communities in a spirit of joy, renewal, and devotion, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage and deep spiritual values.
